Normally, when the police respond to a car accident in Fulton County, they’re looking to help civilians. Sadly, there are times when they are responding to a crash involving one of their own. That was the case this past weekend with two Fulton County deputies killed in Grovetown near Augusta, Georgia.
Two officers were traveling in their patrol car on Interstate-20 on Friday, September 25. For some reason, there was a tractor trailer parked along the side of the road. The investigation has indicated that the truck was trying to avoid the heavy traffic on the highway.
The deputies were driving a Dodge Charger at the time of the accident. They somehow ran into the back of the tractor trailer on Interstate-20 not far from Augusta. The investigation did not reveal if the deputies were on any sort of pursuit at the time of the accident. Nor did they confirm if the officers were speeding or not.
The name of the truck driver was not revealed. Nor was the name of the company the trucker worked for. The two deputies involved in the accident both succumbed to their injuries and passed away.
The first victim was Deputy Anthony White. He had been a veteran of the Fulton County Sheriff’s department for seven years. The second victim was Deputy Kenny Ingram who was about to celebrate his 15th year with the department in October.
The investigation is still ongoing. The authorities are not sure what caused the cruiser to crash into the back of the truck. However, their report did indicate that the truck was legally parked on the side of the road to avoid traffic.
