An accident involving an RV resulted in the death of one person and injuries to another three. The fatal RV incident on I-59 occurred on the afternoon of Thursday, February 25.
According to the details shared by the Dade County Sheriff’s Office, the RV involved in the incident was identified as a travel camper pulling a jeep. The camper was headed northbound along the I-59 at the time of the accident. As the vehicle drew close to the Rising Fawn exit, the right front tire burst.
The tire failure caused the vehicle to veer out of the driver’s control. It crashed right through the guardrail at a fairly high speed. The RV then overturned and continued to roll down the embankment.
A total of four occupants were traveling in the RV at the time of the crash, including the driver and three passengers. Authorities identified the front seat passenger of the RV as a woman. The woman was ejected from the RV as it crashed into the guardrail and rolled down the embankment. She sustained critical injuries in the incident. By the time the first responders and paramedics reached the crash site, the woman had succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene.
Two other passengers in the vehicle as well as the driver also sustained injuries in the incident. The nature and severity of their injuries is not known at this time. They were transported to a local hospital for emergency treatment of their injuries.
Following the RV accident on I-59, Dade County Emergency Services and other local agencies reached the scene. A section of I-59 was briefly closed to traffic but soon cleared. It took the authorities another few hours to extract the RV that was involved in the fatal accident.
