An elderly man lost his life in a fiery Polk County crash last week. Authorities identified the deceased victim as Henry Hogue, 66, of Cedartown.

According to the details shared by the Georgia State Patrol, the fatal accident happened in the afternoon on Monday, December 21. It was reported to the authorities just after 3:30 p.m. Hogue was riding his motorcycle, identified as a Harley Davidson FLSTC, when he ran into the accident.

A spokesperson with GSP confirmed that Hogue was trying to cross over GA 1. He made this attempt at a little distance from the intersection of GA 1 and Mildred Drive. Just as he was trying to cross the road, he came into the path of a 1996 Chevrolet GMT-400. The Chevrolet was headed northbound on GA 1 at the time.

As Hogue came into the path of the Chevrolet, the vehicle collided with the motorcycle on the left side. The impact of the collision caused Hogue to be thrown from the motorcycle. As he was ejected from the motorcycle, a second vehicle that was traveling southbound on the road hit him. GSP identified this second vehicle as a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado.

The Harley Davidson became stuck under the GMT-400 during the collision. As a result of the Polk County crash, the driver of the GMT-400 briefly lost control of the vehicle. Both vehicles then veered off the roadway towards the western edge. Once off the roadway, both vehicles caught fire.

The driver of the GMT-400 was able to get out of the vehicle in time. GSP reported that the driver suffered only minor injuries and remained largely safe in the incident.

Hogue suffered critical injuries due to the collisions with two separate vehicles. He died on the scene from his injuries. The condition of the Silverado driver is not known at this time.
