Two Teenage Girls Survive Dangerous Hit and Run in Rio Rancho

For a young girl named Georgia, her 16th birthday turned out to be anything but sweet. She went hiking in the Foothills on Thursday, June 18, 2020. Most of her friends left and made it home safely. Georgia and her friend Amaya were on their way home as well when they were involved in a hit and run in Rio Rancho.

The girls had just hiked the La Luz Trails. They got into the new car Georgia had just gotten for her 16th birthday. As they were at the intersection of Tramway and Academy, a car ran a red light and slammed into the car.

Amaya called her mom from her cell phone and told her what happened. She was pinned in the car up against a utility pole when she called her mom. Her mother heard screaming and was worried about her daughter.

Apparently, a Good Samaritan came to the scene and waited with the girls for more than 45 minutes while the jaws of life were called. Both girls were trapped inside the car. The man stayed there despite the fact that the car was smoking and seemed ready to blow at any minute.

The police managed to get both girls out of the car. Amaya ended up with a broken femur and had a 4-hour long surgery on Thursday. Georgia was also seriously injured with broken bones in her neck and back. She also had to get 15 stitches.

The investigation is still ongoing. The police have not caught the people who were driving the car that hit the teenage girls. They are asking for the public’s help to get more information. The girls’ families are also looking to find the person who hit them.
