Two men sustained injuries in a single-vehicle crash on I-285 early on the morning of Sunday, March 28. The Cobb County Police Department confirmed that the crash was reported to the authorities at around 3:30 a.m.
Both men who were injured were traveling in a vehicle identified as a black 2004 Honda Accord. The Honda Accord was traveling southbound along the I-285 at the time of the crash.
As the vehicle drove close to the Paces Ferry Road, a northbound vehicle entered into the southbound lanes. To avoid a head-on collision, the driver of the Honda Accord swerved aside. This caused the vehicle to get off the roadway and hit a roadside pole after overturning. The vehicle came to a stop between the lanes and entrance ramp.
Authorities identified the two occupants of Honda Accord as Keymon Howard, 21, of Lawrenceville, and Taevon Dunston, 22, of Lithonia. Howard was driving the vehicle when the crash took place.
During the rollover crash, Dunston was ejected from the vehicle. He sustained serious injuries in the incident. Howard became trapped inside the vehicle following the crash. However, he was able to avoid any serious injuries.
Once the first responders and paramedics reached the scene of the crash, Howard was freed from the vehicle. Both men were provided basic medical treatment and then transported to the Wellstar Kennestone Hospital for further treatment.
The Selective Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) of the Cobb County Police Department continues to investigate the single-vehicle crash on I-285 . Authorities are seeking eyewitness testimony to better understand how the crash occurred. It remains to be seen if the other wrong-way vehicle which caused the crash will be included in the scope of the investigations. However, it is unlikely that any formal charges will be filed against any of the parties involved in the accident.
