Head-On Collision Leaves 2 Dead and 1 Injured in Hepzibah, Georgia

The police in Augusta responded to a crash at about 10:15 pm on Sunday night. It was July 12 when the cops were notified of a head-on collision that occurred on New Karleen Road. Whenever they learn of a head-on crash they know to expect the worst. Sadly, this was indeed the case this week.

A 31-year old man named Kevin Cook was traveling in his 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer. He was in the Northbound lanes at the time of the accident. For some reason, he lost control of his vehicle and ended up driving head-on into Southbound traffic. He crossed the center lines and crashed directly into a man driving a 2005 Buick Century.

By the time the authorities arrived at the scene, they saw that Cook had already succumbed to his injuries. Mark Bowen, the Richmond County Coroner, pronounced him dead at the scene. Sadly, a second person also died at the scene. A juvenile passenger that had been riding in the backseat of the Buick Century was also killed in the crash. The name of this juvenile victim has not yet been released.

The driver of the Buick is also presumed to have been injured. The authorities confirmed that a third person was taken to the hospital for treatment. The name of this third victim has not yet been released.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. Whenever there’s a head-on collision, the police will often perform toxicology reports. This way, they can see if impairment played a role in the accident.

The families of the victims will certainly have a potential legal claim against the estate of Cook and his insurance company. It depends on the outcome of the police investigation.
