A driver from Grantville has been charged by the authorities in connection with a fatal DUI crash that occurred on November 10, killing one person. The driver has been identified as Robert Clyde Kittinger Jr., aged 30.
According to the details shared by the Georgia State Patrol, the fatal crash came about as a result of a collision between two tractor trailers. Kittinger was driving one of the tractor trailers. His vehicle was identified as a 2004 Ford Super Duty. The other vehicle was a Ford Fusion.
Both vehicles were traveling northbound on the Interstate 85 at the time. As they drew close to the mile marker 44, the Ford Fusion which was traveling right in front of Kittinger’s vehicle slowed down due to traffic ahead.
Kittinger failed to slow down in time and ended up crashing into the rear of the Ford Fusion. The impact of the collision caused both tractor trailers to veer off their course. Kittinger’s Super Duty crashed into a Hyundai Santa Fe while the Ford Fusion hit a Lexus ES35.
The Ford Fusion caught fire due to the collision and was fully engulfed in flames by the time the first responders reached the scene of the crash. Its driver was identified as a 51-year-old Hogansville woman who died in the crash. She was pronounced dead on the scene by the Coweta County Coroner.
The occupants of all the other vehicles involved in the crash, including Kittinger, remained largely safe from any injuries. During preliminary investigations, authorities determined that Kittinger was driving under the influence of alcohol at the time the crash took place. He has now been charged with DUI, vehicular homicide, marijuana possession, open container, reckless driving, operating a vehicle without registration, and driving too fast for conditions.
