One person was killed and two others suffered injuries in a multi-vehicle Jackson County crash earlier this week. The fatal wreck happened on Interstate 85 on the afternoon of Wednesday, September 29.

According to the details shared by the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the Jackson County crash involved a flatbed freightliner truck, a Toyota Camry, and a tractor-trailer tanker truck. The freightliner was traveling along the southbound lanes of the I-85 at the time. It was carrying granite slabs.

At mile marker 141, southbound traffic in the right lane had slowed down due to a construction site. The freightliner truck failed to slow down in time and crashed into the rear of the Toyota Camry.

The sheer impact and speed of the freightliner then pushed the truck and the Toyota Camry into the back of a tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer had an attached tank that was carrying an industrial acid at the time.

The Toyota Camry suffered serious damage in the collision as it was stuck between the two commercial vehicles. The driver of the Camry was critically injured and died on the scene of the accident.

The driver of the freightliner also suffered injuries, although his injuries are non-life-threatening. He was transported to the northeast Georgia Hospital in Gainesville once first responders arrived.

Georgia DPS has not yet identified the deceased victim. The agency will name the victim after notifying the next-of-kin.

Authorities continue to investigate the accident. It remains to be seen if the truck driver, or the trucking company, will be held liable for the fatal crash.

In accidents like these, families of deceased victims can recover compensatory damages. A Georgia truck accident lawyer can help the claimants seek a fair amount of damages for their tragic loss.
