Can you imagine losing your job and getting shot in the jaw in the same day? That’s exactly what happened to a McDonough man this past week. On Monday, August 30, Shane Doby was traveling on Interstate-675 when a man pulled up alongside his car. Doby and his wife, Hannah, were on their way to go hiking at Stone Mountain.

Earlier in the day, the victim had lost his job along with his health insurance. While on the highway, he approached the part of the road where I-675 merges with I-285. He noticed a car had been tailgating him. All of a sudden, the driver of the other car pulled up alongside Doby and his wife.

The next thing Doby knew, the driver had pulled up to their window and was pointing a gun at their window. They pulled the trigger and Doby was shot in the jaw. He was rushed to Grady Memorial Hospital where he underwent surgery. The doctors expect he will need massive reconstruction surgery in the near future.

The police are still investigating the incident. The victim said the man who shot him was driving a Chevrolet Silverado 2500 pickup truck. The vehicle was black. The cops are asking the public for their help in identifying the subject.

Without being able to learn the identity of the shooter, Doby will have no way to cover his medical bills. In any other sort of accident like this, he would be able to file a claim against the other driver. He may have even been able to pursue the driver’s insurance as well. That isn’t an option right now.
