Rescue crews responded to the scene of a freak boom lift accident in Northwest Atlanta this week. On Tuesday, May 19, 2020, at about 3 pm, the police were called by witnesses in the 1300 block of Gun Club Road. They were calling about an accident involving a utility worker.

When the police arrived at the scene, they found 55-year old Dexter Walters trapped under the wheel of a large piece of equipment. Walters was working out of an Xfinity vehicle at the time of the accident. He had been operating a boom lift when, witnesses said, the boom lift fell to the ground.

According to witnesses, the boom lift was working just fine when, out of nowhere, it fell crashing to the ground. Walters somehow got trapped under the equipment and was crushed under the machine’s wheel. Sadly, by the time the rescue crews arrived at the scene, the worker had already succumbed to his injuries. Walters was pronounced dead at the scene.

There has been no comment from the victim’s employer. There has been no confirmation if Walters works for Xfinity or was a third-party contractor. There has also been no statement released from the victim’s family as of yet.

The investigation is still under way. There is no information yet as to what could’ve caused the equipment to crash to the ground. There are also no details about whether there were other workers there who could’ve helped Walters.

If they find that the equipment was defective, Walters’ family may have a potential wrongful death claim against his employer or the equipment manufacturer. They’ll have to wait until the investigation is complete to file any sort of claim.
