Police in Macon, Georgia responded to a tragic scene this past Monday, when a woman was killed by a logging truck. At around 6 pm, the Georgia Highway Patrol received a call of an accident that took place near the intersection of Georgia highway 80 and Travelers Rest Road. The crash involved two vehicles –a Mack Truck and an Acura Integra.
Apparently, a 64-year old man named Robert Brooks was driving his Mack Truck in the Southbound lanes of Georgia Highway 80. At the same time he was approaching the red light at the intersection, a 68-year old woman named Belinda Woods was arriving at the intersection.
Woods had been traveling East on Travelers Rest Road at the time of the crash. As the two entered the area, Brooks smashed into the side of Woods’ Acura Integra. Her vehicle was hit by the front end of his truck.
The truck Brooks was driving was a logging truck and was no match for Woods’ passenger vehicle. There were no other passengers in either the truck or the car at the time of the accident.
When the police arrived at the scene, they found Brooks unharmed and out of his vehicle. Woods had clearly suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to the Medical Center in Macon. Sadly, she died at the hospital shortly thereafter and was pronounced dead.
The investigation is ongoing. There has been no indication if Brooks had run the red light. The police have also not confirmed if alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. So far, no charges are pending. However, the authorities stated that this could change once they’ve completed their investigation.
There has been no statement from the victim’s family at this time.
